Today is my last day of brain-freedom. It is official that I will be returning to my old job tomorrow.
I am excited and nervous at the same time. Excited to talk to my old friends at work and to make some cash. Nervous because I tend to obsess about work, to the detriment of other things in my life. I will be working from home, and the job is only part time. However, work tends to take up my brain more than it should. I am hoping I will have more self-control this time around and will be able to ‘turn the job off’. I love working from home, but one of the downsides is that it is harder to walk away from work when your laptop is just sitting there, staring at you. Overall though, I think being employed again will be very good for me.
So, since I will be otherwise occupied for a good part of the day, I hope my readers will understand that my replies to comments may not be as quick as in the past. Also, I may not be able to visit other sites as frequently as I have been, at least not at first. I will be figuring out a new schedule, and going through a little period of adjustment. I do hope to be able to post almost daily, but we will see how it goes. I know many of you work full time and still find a lot of time to write, and I am hoping I will be able to do the same.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend, and have a safe time trick or treating!

Congrats for your re-employment!!
Part-time is a great balance. I think that would be an ideal situation.
Cheers
Congrats on returning back to your job! You informed us previously that this was in the works, and I’m glad that everything worked out. I’m confident that you will find that sweet balance between work and play 🙂
Congratulations!!
Congratulations…. and condolences 🙂
Sounds like you’ll be busy more than full time, since working in the home taking care of kids and running a household can be all-consuming, or at least seem that way.
Congratulations! 🙂
Congratulation! nothing beats a regular paycheck.
It’ll be an adjustment, that’s for sure! I know better than to underestimate the mom duties!
Tell me (or really us), if you need some backup guest posts. I’m sure between the normal readers and the Yakezie group, we can supply a few to help out when needed… 🙂
Congratulations! Part time is a great balance. Hopefully you will allot time for everything you love, kids, blog and time for yourself 🙂 Good Luck!
Congratulations! I loved working part time (which only lasted about 6 mos after I had my second son).
I really think I learned to turn off the work brain after becoming a mom. The kids just kept me too darn busy to think about anything else! It worked both ways; I didn’t think about home at work.
Congratulations, I’m glad that everything worked out. Now let’s just hope you can avoid having it overtake your life!
Thank you so much for the warm wishes everyone! I am sure it will be a challenge to get my brain back in ‘working’ mode again, but I think it will all work out. 🙂
Congrats and best of luck!
Congratulations and don’t worry about commenting and visintg other website. I understnand how it is. I still hope to see you at the Kitchen Sink, though. 🙂
Of course I will be visiting the Kitchen Sink, do not worry! 🙂 Thanks for the kindness!
Congratulations. My stint in the ranks of the unemployed drove me nuts after about a month.
Biz – I have worked/not worked on and off for 15 years, mostly by choice to be with the kids so I never minded not working. However, if I were the main breadwinner, it would drive me insane too.
Congrats; hope everything works out for you and don’t let work drive you too insane. 😉
Hey Kevin – Insane is sometimes my middle name, so I will need to make sure it doesn’t take over my otherwise exciting life!
Congratulations on your new endeavor. I’m curious as to what kind of work you will be doing, I think I missed some of the previous posts on returning to work. Good luck and I’m sure you’ll figure out a new schedule!
Hi Little House! I won’t be doing anything real exciting. I have been back and forth at this job my entire career. Once I had kids, I started working from home part time. I then stayed home completely for many years, then went back to help with a project. I was off the last nine months, and am going back for awhile to help out. It will be computer programming/IT stuff.
Thanks for the well wishes!
I sure would work 20 hours a week for 1/2 the pay. Part time jigs are the best when they pay well. I think the only way I can get that done is with my own business.
Congrats. Paychecks are nice. I love payday. Have you decided what you’re going to do with the money yet?
Hi First Gen: Part time is great. I have been working part time on and off for 15 years or so. (Much of that time was not working at all, by choice.) I still have a hard time turning off work though, even when it is part time. That is part of the problem with working from home.
I am going to save a certain percentage so that I max out the retirement first off. I will then save some for college as that saving has taken the back burner a bit since I have been living a life of leisure. I am going to invest some, put some extra toward my mortgage, and then have some left over for fun. I won’t be frolicking around all month spending like crazy, but if I want to take the family to a neat new restaurant, then that is what we will do!
Good luck lady! Feel free to vent at me anytime, lol! 🙂
How’d it go?
Thanks for asking Nicole! It was somewhat of a non-event. Had to spend the day setting up my new pc, and that did not go very smoothly unfortunately. Hopefully things will go better once everything is all set up and such!
