Happy Valentine’s Day!

First of all, Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!

Valentine’s Day snuck up on me this year, I cannot believe it is already mid-February.

My husband and I are not big celebrators of Valentine’s Day, but we do always get each other a card and try to go out to lunch or dinner at some point around Valentine’s Day.  I think my kids like the ‘holiday’  best because they always wake up to various Valentines treats that are waiting for them at the kitchen table.   Treats include chocolates, some miscellaneous gift like a book or whatever that child is enjoying at that time, and lottery tickets.  Yes, I am turning my children in to gamblers at an early age.

Is this where you are headed to celebrate Valentine's Day?

Regardless of what the gift is that I give or receive, nothing can be more unique than what is suggested in the tiny picture above.   I know it is too small to read, but the picture is of sign for a White Castle Hamburger restaurant by my home.  In the writing below the ‘White Castle’ sign is a phone number you can call to reserve seating at White Castle for Valentine’s Day.

Now I don’t know how widespread White Castle restaurants are, but for those of you who have never been to White Castle, it is a hamburger place that features incredibly greasy hamburgers that are loaded with onions and are really small and cheap.  I can’t think of a place I would rather eat at less on Valentine’s Day, or really any other day now that I think about it.  However, I love that they are taking reservations.  I am sure it is extra difficult to arrange reservations at a restaurant to offers mainly counter-seating.

So, what are you Valentine’s Day plans?  Do you plan on spending more than the cost of a White Castle 6 pack of burgers?

A nice bouquet of white flowers, combo of roses, lilies, mums. Love note by the sink. Lunch out (Mrs. 101 choice of place), followed by 1/2 day off from work — couldn’t manage a full day, drat!
As for White Castle , I can understand that. We’ve been known to go to Ron’s Hamburgers and Chili on special occasions, just because the have the most awesomest cheeseburgers. In fact, that’s where we might end up today.

I can do without the reservations at White Castles (by the way, are their burgers still green? (just joking)). I’ll be taking the wife out to a nice restaurant, and, of course, she insists that I buy her a gift because she feels underappreciated most of the time. I’m not big on special occasions like this, but I try to make it special for her.

Going out to a fancy restaurant tonight… with 5 gentlemen… 4 search committee members and one job market candidate. Husband and child stay at home.

White Castle reservations?

Funny stuff, actually. I think of Harold and Kumar right away. I ate at White Castle a few times back in college. It seemed to work well at 1am, but not so well at 1pm:)

Had Italian dinner out on Saturday, which served as V-day dinner.

I sent the kiddos their Valentines earlier in the week. I had meant to get pretty gift cards in seasonal colors, but I just didn’t have time and I wasn’t sure which to get, so I just slipped in $10 instead and told them it was an all purpose GC (green seems to work on any holiday, I think).

The hubs & I were part of a St. Valentine’s Concert last night – he & I were in a quartet number and in a big group number. Then the hubs had a great solo number, and, in all modesty, brought down the house with his big Tony Bennett-esque finish. There was a reception afterwards, and that was lots of fun.

For this morning, I fixed up a poem for him, with various heart/cupid sticker decorations and arranged it on a teddy bear. I had paid homage (i.e, shamelessly spoofed) the first part of “The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock” to invite the hubs out to breakfast: “Let us go then you and I/ where the Golden Arches are spread out against the sky/ With a delicious #2 spread across the table..” etc., meaning we would go get his beloved Sausage McMuffin (with Egg), which is #2 on the menu at McD’s (in case you didn’t know and some other imagery came to mind, ha ha!). So we had a romantic breakfast, and I went on to work and he went on to our car place to see about getting some repairs done (nothing says L-O-V-E like a re-aligned front end).

We’re going out to eat with some friends tonight, which will be great. The weather is blessedly sunny and mild, so it’s shaping up to be a truly fantastic St. Val’s Day!

PS – We have a couple of White Castles here in town, and they also offer reservations for their Valentine’s Special. They sold out last year, from what I understand (got a big write up in the paper and TV news visits) and I imagine they will have a big year again, since the price is very affordable. The hubs loves WC as well, but I have to draw the line there – no sliders today.

Nice! White Castle is the bomb 🙂
Not to much going on this year for me and DH. We have taken to going out the night before Valentines Day in year’s past due to the huge crowds. I hate feeling rushed at nice dinners!

Happy Valentines day all!

Never been to a White Castle restaurant. I highly doubt they will have anything for me (I am a vegetarian). We are not doing anything for Valentines day. I am not even going to be seeing my husband, it is my travel day today. We did have a nice dinner that he made on Saturday and did get a whole lot of work done this weekend. So that is my valentines day special…

Why do we associate money with doing something nice? A very long time ago, dinner at McDonald’s was a treat! Not on Valentine’s Day though. We are staying in! I am bringing food in and have a nice romantic, candlelight dinner in front of the roaring fireplace. Maybe no fire, too warm!

I almost bought roses this year, but then my wife beat me to the punch and told me she wanted me to order a certain book off of ebay. So total cost for the hardback book was $7.50 (and that included shipping).

The white castle thing is funny. Cool Gimmic.

I probably spent more than that for sure, but not too much more. Valentine’s Day was a frugal one this year, but still romantic. In fact it’s not finished… both of us were so sleepy yesterday that we agreed to resume on Wednesday!

Me, my valentines plan to spend it with my love ones specially my wife. A simple candle light dinner with my wife to a favorite restaurant. After that, watching a last full time show movie.
