Blog Stats Year In Review – 2010

in Blogging

I have to say, I love my blog.  It isn’t that I love my writing or anything like that, put I enjoy putting my thoughts down on ‘paper’.  I love responding to comments and reading the blogs of others.  My new hobby is the best!

So, I wanted to share some of my stats from my first year of blogging.  Keep in mind, my numbers are not nearly as impressive as many new blogs are, but I am so glad I get more than 2 views a day.  I wrote my first post on March 4th, and the following are my stats from that date until the end of the 2010.  (I cannot give page views or bounce rate stats as my google analytics code was messed up for many months, and double recorded page views.)

Visits:  31,050

Visitors:  20,098

Search Engine traffic:  36%  (Google, I hate how you won’t give me page rank, but I love how you give me traffic.)

Average time on site:  2 minutes, 39 seconds (please, stay longer in 2011!)

Most popular post:  Tax Avoidance, Double Irish and Dutch Sandwiches, with 2951 visits. Thank you Dilbert!

Top 5 referrers, besides Feedburner, Reddit, etc:
Budgeting In The Fun Stuff
Grumpy Rumblings of the Untenured
Money Reasons
Len Penzo dot Com
Free Money Finance
(Thank you so much guys. You have done more than just refer traffic, I appreciate all the support you have given the last year also.)

I look so forward to 2011 as I learn more about writing.  Again, I wish everyone a wonderful New Year, and I want to give a big thank you to every reader that stopped by, and also to everyone who took the time to comment.

Very nice Kris! Google love is the best kind of love for a blogger! 36% from search engine traffic is very good! Don’t worry about PageRank, that’s gone the way of the dodo!

Great work Kris! With that traffic, I think your page rank IS much higher than what google shows, it is just not showing your true rank. Happy 2011!

Kris,

I’ve been reading ETT for a couple of months now and I really enjoy your blog. You are witty, thoughtful and insightful with your writing. In short, you have plain ole’ good stuff! In fact, I enjoy it so much I added you to my BlogRoll so others can enjoy ETT too! If you prefer a different blog description just email me 🙂

Happy 2011!

looks like good results. don’t sweat the pagerank, it’s been unreliable for so long that it has lost all meaning. Whatever the big G is using for ranking is now a secret (as it should be) – your getting good traffic from them, so just keep doing whatever it is your doing and it will continue to grow!

You have done a great job with your site – one of my favorite blogs to read! I’m sure that you’ll destroy these numbers next year!

Hey Kris, Those are some great stats for only 9 months. Good work! I started my blog around the same time and share your frustration with the lack of page rank….but in the end it doesn’t matter so much, it’s the readers that count.

Great statistics, I hope your blog grows even more in 2011. That pesky page rank thing can be a bit odd, but I wouldn’t fuss over it. Don’t forget to change your copyright in the footer to 2011!

Woo hoo. It’s a great accomplishment. I also think you have a great blog name which helps with attracting advertisers, etc. It’s not too broad, but not too narrow. It’s just right. I can’t wait to see what next year looks like for you.

Congrats!!! Very good figures, specially given it’s your first year around.
Tell me… have you established goals for 2011? I’ve seen your post with personal goals, but have you done the exercise for the blog??? Good luck! I’ll be following your work!

I have not come up with blog goals because there are a lot of variables I feel I don’t have a whole lot of control over. I am still learning so much. Perhaps I would do better if I had goals, and it is definitely something I should think about.
