7 Links Project – A Blog Synopsis

in Blogging

This blog was nominated by Retire by 40 to participate in the “7 links project”.  The purpose of the project is for each blog writer to highlight 7 of their previous posts, based on 7 questions.  The following are my responses to the 7 questions.  I hope you take the time to maybe click on some of the articles you have not read yet, as some are these posts are from way back in the day when I was the only reader of this blog.

Your most beautiful post

That is a tough one, because I don’t think of myself as a beautiful writer.  However, I did write about some simple memories, both happy and sad, that I know I will never forget.  You just never know what you will experience in life that will end up staying with you forever. Many of these experiences will shape your life, and others maybe just bring a smile to your face.  The emotions I felt and the events I recalled when writing that post were very interesting.   I laughed a little, and I think I cried a little.  Regardless, I enjoyed writing that post tremendously.

Your most popular post

Ridiculously enough, my most popular post was about how Google avoids taxes by using such methods as the ‘Double Irish’ and ‘Dutch Sandwich (Tax)’.  It became popular because Scott Adams wrote a Dilbert cartoon that mentioned Dutch Sandwich Taxes, and so everyone googled the term ‘Dutch Sandwich Tax’, which brought up my blog.

Your most controversial post

I don’t really go for controversy at all.  However, I recently wrote about how I am sick of how everyone wants to tax the rich to fix the ills of the country, and it got a couple readers riled up.  I actually thought more people would be angry at that post.  Maybe people just didn’t read it, or got bored halfway through…

Your most helpful post

I probably find this post most helpful because of the illness my son went through, but the info I provided in the post about the illness C. Diff (Clostridium Difficile) could make a big difference to many.  Just about everyone I know takes antibiotics at one time or another, and usually don’t think twice about what antibiotics really do to your body, specifically your gut flora.  If I could prevent one person from getting C Diff, then I would feel like a huge success.

A post whose success surprised you

Well, the success of the Google Taxes post mentioned above shocked me.  However, since that post has already been mentioned, I will instead say that the success of the post written about that little brat in the Toyota Highlander commercial surprised me second most.  I cringe whenever I see those commercials.  (For those unfamiliar with the ads, there is a rich looking kid in the back of his Toyota Highlander with his headphones on watching television.  He glaces over at the car next to him, where his classmate is stuck in the back seat with only his parents for amusement.  The rich brat just shakes his head in pity at the other kid and says something about how great the Toyota Highlander is.)  Obviously there are many readers out there that agreed with me because when I look at my search statistics, quite often I see the search term “Toyota Highlander Brat”.  (My site ranks second and third on Google for the term “Toyota Highlander Brat”.  I feel so accomplished.)

A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved.

Whereas the post I wrote about questions I have about the doctor’s office wasn’t particular informative, I found it kind of fun. I wrote it during my second month of blogging, and it didn’t really get much attention.  However, I do like that post.

The post that you are most proud of

A reader had emailed me a question regarding tracking expenses, and also spending habits in general.  I responded with a lengthy post which included expense tracking, and also some money saving tips that can be employed for life.  I covered so many basics of personal finance in this post, and also included some healthy living ideas that also benefit your wallet.

I now have to nominate 5 other bloggers.  I have no idea who all has participated, so if you were nominated and already wrote a ‘7 links’ post, then please ignore my request:

A special thank you goes out to Retire By 40 for nominating me to participate in the 7 Links Project. It was fun to go through my old posts and re-read some of them!

Love it. I didn’t nominate you because I’ve read all your posts from the very beginning. You have a great body of work.

Thank you First Gen! Your stories resonate with so many- you have such a unique family and a great style of writing!

I think I’ve already read all of your posts, but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog. I don’t read many blogs on a regular basis, but always look forward to the few minutes a day I can spend reading yours. It’s scary how often you post something I have been thinking about or relates so perfectly to my life – from being a late in life coffee drinker to trying to juggle finances and 3 kids. Thanks for keeping my head in perspective when others are “keeping up with the Joneses or my kids are growing up too fast.

Tina, your comment made my day! I nominate your comment, ‘comment of the year’.

It is hard to write a blog because you just never know who you are connecting with, if anyone. I am sure some people hate me, but that is ok. (As long as they keep their opinions to themselves. 🙂 )

I appreciate your visits, and feel free to comment any time. Until I started writing my blog, I didn’t read many blogs myself. However, they can be a lot of fun. Maybe you should consider writing one??

Those were some great posts! I enjoy your writing and really liked your beautiful post. Awesome memories. Hope you are making many more!

Thank you for the kind words Buck! It is amazing what the mind is actually able to remember, although the memories from grade school aren’t as plentiful as they once were.

I love your blog too. I have really enjoyed this meme. It has been fun to see what posts bloggers will choose.

Kris August 14, 2011 at 11:32 pm

Thank you Niki. As I looked back on the last 17 months of writing, it was hard to select which posts to pick for each category!

Thanks for nominating me, Kris. I’ll get started on this. 🙂 I remember that dutch sandwich post…

Kevin, I hesitated to nominate you because I knew you would be busy settling back in again. However, there are a lot of great posts of yours out there that you should let people know about!

Kris – Thanks for nominating me. I’m looking forward to writing my own post.

As for your blog, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it as I’ve mentioned a few times. It’s on my short list of first reads. Maybe it’s a shared Midwest/Great Lakes thing, but I not only get your posts but they also get me to think about things as well.

For some reason, the post that comes to mind right away as I think about past posts you’ve had is one where you had some bad service at a pharmacy. I recall that resonating quite well for one reason or another.

Kris August 15, 2011 at 9:18 pm

Squirrel, maybe I need to do ‘rant’ posts more often!! Thanks for the kind words, you know I love your site!

MoneyCone August 16, 2011 at 2:47 pm

I remember almost all of your posts Kris and probably commented on most of your posts! The Toyota commercial post was the one that where I realized I’m becoming a regular at your site!

Excellent list Kris and thanks for the nomination!
