Thoughts for Thursday: Please Throw Kwame Kilpatrick in Jail

in Thoughts For Thursday

So I didn’t plan on introducing politics into my blog.  However, I can only hear so much about Kwame Kilpatrick without expressing my anger.

For those who do not know who Kwame Kilpatrick is, he is the shamed former Mayor of Detroit who cheats, lies (perjures to be more exact), steals, does back-door deals, violates probation, you name it.  He is currently living in a house in Texas that is larger than the Manoogian Mansion, and is ’employed’ by Covisint/Karmanos.

Yesterday, Kilpatrick showed up in court in Detroit to face charges of violating probation for not reporting assets that could be used to pay his restitution.  Big surprise!   Kilpatrick is such a liar and a cheater, did the judicial system actual expect he would actually provide a detailed list of everything he owns? I am sure he started funneling assets to anyone he trusted the minute his texting scandal came out.

In addition to Kilpatrick, I want to smack the judge in the case yesterday.  Judge David Groner decided to delay sentencing of Kilpatrick 30 days because Kilpatrick had just made a $3,000 payment toward his restitution and the judge felt he might make another $3,000 payment in another month.  So Kwame can run around free for four weeks because the city of Detroit might get an extra $3K?   What????  I bet you could get volunteers to go door-to-door to raise money for a ‘Throw Kwame in Jail’ fund and raise a lot more than three thousand dollars.  Judge Groner then issued a veiled threat, telling Kilpatrick to get his affairs in order.

What I think would be fantastic would be if there was a prison program for white collar criminals that forces them to clean up Detroit.  I don’t mean picking up garbage on the side of the road.  I want to see them tear down crack houses, clean up the parks so the kids have a place to play, paint over graffiti;  the options are endless.  I was driving through the city yesterday and I just do not know how Kilpatrick can live with himself.  That city needs so much help, and he did absolutely nothing  for that city but make things worse.   I would just love to be driving down Woodward and see Kilpatrick in a giant orange jumpsuit breaking a sweat and cleaning up an abandoned lot.  That egomaniac needs to learn that he is not above the law, and if Judge Groner does not throw Kilpatrick in jail come May 20th, I cannot imagine what the reaction by the public will be.

Absolutely agree! After being in Chicago last weekend, the problems that Detroit faces become even more clear and depressing. I am eagerly awaiting the federal indictments for Kwame, Bernard and the rest of the gang.

I thought I’d share his funny take on KK’s appeal for more money from a columnist in the Freep.

Beth, thanks for the link! I particularly like him needing to keep his hot tub at 102 degrees. But then it made me envision him getting into the hot tub…
