This is depresssing- new study shows ‘older’ women need to exercise an hour a day to not gain weight

So I came across this across this article that states middle-aged and older women need to exercise at least an hour a day to just MAINTAIN their current weight.  What????  I much preferred studies that said 30 minutes of exercise on MOST days was enough.  Not to mention that many women are already overweight to begin with (according to the article), so what happens in 10 years to women who do not get that daily hour of exercise??  Yikes, it sure paints a pretty grim picture.  On the other hand, the amount of exercise needed decreases if calories are also reduced.  I wonder what the studies show for men.  They probably just need to drink more beer or something to lose their weight.

Enjoy the article, although I didn’t… 🙂

My experience has been that a decrease in calories, just causes my body to store more fat and I gain weight unless I continue to exercise the same amount (which I haven’t). This is depressing! The good news is, after 50 we are more confident so we’ll just hike up our pants to our chins in “D” style, and wear bigger longer shirts and realize how awesome we are for not wasting our time on such unimportant things as fretting about the way we look.

I laughed at Sherie’s comment because I’m almost to the point of not caring and I’m only 27. I’ve maintained my current weight for more than 2 years, but it’s 30 pounds over what my “target” should be. I’m not sure right now if I care.

Beer is good for you. And an hour of exercise is hard on your joints.
