Summary of tips for March 2010 – Exercise, Saving Money, Diet, Gardening, Budgeting and More!

At the end of each month, I will create a summary post of many of the tips provided that month.   Enjoy!

March 2010:

  1. Buy a candy bar each week that is at least 70 percent cocoa (dark chocolate).  Eat a little bit of the candy bar each day.
  2. When budgeting, don’t just include everyday items.  Account for bigger items that occur periodically throughout the year and divide those costs by 12.  Include the amortized value into your budget and set aside additional money each month for those expenses.
  3. Get those kids eating as healthy as possible at a very young age.  Try anything healthy.  You may be surprised what little ones will eat when they are not predisposed to eating fried and sugary foods.
  4. Have a tough workout?  Have a glass of lowfat chocolate milk afterward to avoid muscle aches and fatigue.
  5. For the garden; map out what you are planting and where.  (Maximize yield by researching what vegetables/fruit grow best next to each other.)
  6. Got a pesky rash?  Think about the jewelry you are wearing; even if you do not wear any jewelry right where the rash is located.  Many people are allergic to metals, and rashes may not appear exactly you would expect them to.
  7. When grocery shopping, evaluate the true cost of what you are buying on an ounce-for-ounce basis.  Sometimes, the bigger containers are actually more expensive than the smaller ones.
  8. Got a wart?   Cover the wart with a cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar and a bandage overnight for about 10 days or so.  (Make sure it is uncovered during the day.)   That wart might just scab over and fall right off
  9. Have your tires rotated every time you get an oil change
  10. Diet tips!  Get walking, cut up fruit/veggies and have them easily accessible in the fridge, keep a food diary, eat a healthy breakfast and STOP DRINKING SODA!!!
  11. Use coupons every chance you get (but do not buy something just because you have a coupon, unless it is free).  If there is a great price for a certain item and you have several coupons, stock up and buy enough to hold you over under the next sale rolls around.   Bottom line- try to buy your grocery items when that product is on sale and you also have a coupon for it, to maximize savings.
  12. Do not buy soft drinks at restaurants anymore.  Many sit-down restaurants charge over 2 dollars per soft drink.  (More like $2.39.)  With tax and tip, you end up paying 3 dollars for some watered-down drink that is not even good for you.  Ask for water and lemon instead.
  13. Remember when you are exercising, it doesn’t have to be a perfect workout that is super intense.  Just getting off the couch and walking is great for your health.
  14. If someone is grieving, make sure you acknowledge their loss with at least a card and a phone call if you can’t attend the service.  Life is busy, but everyone can find 10 minutes to run in a store and buy a card.
