Sorry to disappoint, but this post is not about how to enjoy your favorite canned meat.

For those of you that read this site and do not blog, we bloggers get a lot of spam comments that go straight to our spam folder.  People that post these spammy comments hope that nobody recognizes that the comment they wrote has nothing to do with the post that was written, and they want everyone to  click on the link that is embedded in the comment, or attached to the person that submitted the comment.   It is basically a way to derive traffic to their own site.  For fun, I thought I would share some of the comments that are sent my way, along with my personal commentary on each one.  I am cutting and pasting exactly as they were written, so all typographical errors are owned by the original author:

I feel you are too good to write Genius! Thanks for posting, maybe we can see more on this. (Yes, I am a genius, but I didn’t know you knew me so well!  Thanks for spreading the good news on my high intelligence.  Perhaps I should be on tv since I am too good to write?)

You’re so cool for giving us such an interesting info! This post author is without the shadow of a doubt knowledgeable but also very astute too. There normally aint a army of writers who can create My friend Shirlyn led me me about this blog a number of hours ago however now is the first time I’m visting. Many things, it’s getting bookmarked! Yea! (In addition to being a genius, I am cool and astute.  I am so glad that the commenter and Shirlyn enjoy my posts so much and are bookmarking me.)

To myself presently there is actually nothing at all more wonderful compared to angling, when I have the opportunity.I delight in the peacefulness and quiet inside of my past time, as others do I am certain. Thank you for your interesting opinions I love reading them so much. Thank you. (What I liked so much about this one is the comment was attached to my rant about the BP oil debacle.  Is this person implying they like to go fishing in the middle of oil spills?)

dfmtiicv…dfmtiicv… (Need I say anything about this?)

Yes, i am glad that your asking us to know our opinion. (This comment was on a post for a chicken and rice recipe.  No opinions were asked for, and the author never gave an opinion!)

The largest and best club for insomnia…Here is the club of the loser of sleeping. We supply the most abundant knowledge about insomnia and help you get rid of it soon…. (I didn’t know there were clubs for insomnia, aka- the loser of sleeping.)

dispenses utilize a fantastic site decent Gives thank you for the work to guide me personally (Not sure what this even means.)

The truth is with the intention of is doesn’t only this minute start upcoming inside without more ado…The money I mean. You could cover to deposit a lot in life of hours (possibly weeks…Maybe months) previous to you want start since a lot in life of money reach inside. If you labor violently, you want go with a deal at this point, and a deal here, and it want help to keep your spirits intelligent inside this, but it want be present particular stage previous to you go with a complete stage revenue from this, since it only this minute takes stage. It takes a lot in life of stage, a lot in life of trial and fault, and a lot in life of result made known only this minute could you repeat that? Mechanism and could you repeat that? Doesn’t labor as soon as tiresome to make money online and work from home. (Ok, I know this was a long one, but it is great.  The commenter is right, if I do labor violently, I will want a deal.  Violent labor is tiresome.  I think the point might be that I could labor less violently while working from home?  Not quite sure.)

So all you bloggers out there, do you have some great spam to share?  If so, please leave a comment!

HAha, nice. I love my occassional “LEt me know if you want the $5,800,000 I deposited in a special account for you!”

Gmail does a great job filtering. Much better than Yahoo that’s for sure!

Happy Friday!

Best, Sam

Sam – I had also been inundated with countless notifications of how much money I have been winning, or I am entitled too- all overseas. I am very wealthy now apparently!

Happy Friday to you too!

Awww man, I trashed mine this morning already.

My favorites are the ones that give me an ego boost before I delete them…”Wow, I had been looking for info on this all day and there you have it! Thanks for being the bestest, most amazing blogger ever!”…okay, so I stretched that a little, but there’s always a few spam messages similar to that waiting around for me, lol. 🙂

I really dislike the ones that tell me that it could have been better or that my site looks weird on the whatever-they-use-system. Punks.

Hahaha…one came in while I was typing this: “Excellent! Thanks a lot for going beyond the typical marketing advice. This feels immediately useful.”

I think this is particularly stupid since it was left on one of my Yakezie Ranking Update posts…tons of marketing advice there, right? 🙂

BFS – Oh I know! I wonder what benefit they get from saying ‘your rss feed doesn’t seem to be working’. I had one recently telling me to re-upload all the pictures because they didn’t look right. I remember believing the first one of these I got that said my site looked wrong in Google Chrome or something like that.

I usually just delete the spam without even looking at them (hopefully no legitimate comments are mixed in there!) but here’s one that I just received…

“Gratefulness you as your information.”

Huh?

Mike, I have a couple people that leave comments and they end up in the spam folder regularly for some reason. So I always check it pretty closely before deleting.

I wonder how much people get paid for leaving these comments.

Haha, I love these spam posts. I don’t get them anymore since I installed a captcha. I almost miss them, in a way!

Kevin – I do enjoy the spam sometimes. I usually just delete it, but a couple caught my eye this week and I just had to share them!

You must be a mind reader! I was going to share this with the Yakezie group… My first spam message I thought was legit. It said something like “Interesting Post, not sure if I agree, thanks for the post” A month later I learned the SPAM tricks and went back and removed it…

Here are some of my more interesting spam messages (from this week):
>My partner and i this online, regarding composing associated with, that just what My partner and i searching for! (my post was about wasting life watching TV)

>Said these many, if adds on some splendid picture that to be able again to be more outstanding. (about the BP crisis)

>The %BLOGTILE% subject intrigues me, While lawn mowers come in all varieties of shapes, sizes, and prices, knowing what you want to buy before you even begin to look will save you a whole lot of hard work. (Opps, this one is a give away.. What color is your BLOGTILE? lol!)

I also get the “Your blog rocks” spam messages too, but I already purged them today…

I use my Statcounter tracker to see which were real posts and with were autogenerated. Sometimes these spam posts are good and hard to determine, other times, they are easy. Actually, it’s a rarity that I use Statcounter anymore, because you get a feel for it after soooo many spam comments 🙁

I bet there are some good plugins out there that will purge the SPAM comments auto-magically…

That’s so funny Money Reasons, I had to go back and remove some ‘legitimate’ comments too. I was young and naive, and not getting many comments – and I thought it was real!

How do you use statcounter to see what is real and what is spam? I will have to look more closely at the options because I have not come across that yet.

i get really miffed at the lazy spammers the “great post thanks” luis Vuiton @ luxuryhand bag etc etc etc. The leat you could do is give me a little spammy message love. At least the nigerians are entertaining with their scam emails. I just started using askimet, it’s caught a couple of legitimate comments as spam but other wise it’s been alot easier.

Benjamin, very true, I at least want a little laugh at the spam. Akismet is great. It occasionally tosses a good comment into the spam folder, but it is completely worth it. I read through the spam everyday and rescue the good comments, if there are any.

Sounds like Chinglish to me (Chinese English). I don’t have a blog, but often get Chinglish spam when I post on Craigslist.

I have never posted on Craigslist, but I never expected people to spam there. I will have to check it out!

I always read my spam too, as I have a 100:1 ratio for spam to legit comments 😛 I like it when they say my blog is the best 🙂 I occasionally get your subscription/rss/whatever not working comment, I initially wasted almost 2 days trying to fix something that was not broken. Now I know what works in what system, so they go directly to spam. Spammers have become very creative and better, sometimes it is difficult to distinguish. Mostly the spam filter can figure it out though.

My favorite one is “In truth, immediately i didn’t understand the essence. But after re-reading all at once became clear. I love your blog, I am going be watching you forever”. umm… I don’t want anyone “watching” me. And this one was for how to check your tax return status! Another one is “Oh I love this as a birthday cake idea! Might have to use it! ” for my iphone post lol! May be my iphone picture looked like a birthday cake?

Kris July 11, 2010 at 7:57 am

Suba – I get so mad when the spammers tell you that something is broken on your site. I spent an hour checking things out one day, and then I just hoped that they were making a dumb comment, which they were. I much prefer when they tell me how great I am instead!
