One Of My Favorite Pictures From Vacation

As regular readers know, I recently went to Florida for vacation.  We started out playing in the Gulf of Mexico, and then headed east to Disneyworld.

We have been to Disney quite a few times.  Therefore, we know the parks pretty well.  We know what rides to get a Fastpass for first thing, what rides to visit at night, where to eat at a reasonable price, etc.  Another thing we have learned is where to go when we are getting tired and need to rest up and get a second wind.   So, on our most recent trip, we were needing that break and we decided to stroll over to Tomorrowland and ride the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (TTA).  The TTA is basically an elevated open-air-train-type track where you sit in a car and it cruises slowly around Tomorrowland.  I can’t remember how many minutes the ride takes, but quite often you can stay in your car and ride repeatedly as long as there is not a big line.  The attraction is nice because you get to rest, and you get to see some interesting things.   You not only get to go through the Buzz Lightyear Ride, Space Mountain, etc, but you can get a spectacular view of the Magic Kingdom park too.

On our most recent visit, we rode on the TTA at sundown.  The weather was perfect, around 72 degrees, and the sky was gorgeous.  I snapped this photo while riding around Tomorrowland:    (Please excuse the white in the upper right hand corner.  I obviously am not a professional photographer.  In my own defense, I was in a moving vehicle…)

I have no idea why I am so enamored with this picture, and I am sure I appreciate it more than most since it is attached to my memories.  Anyway, I hope readers might find it interesting too.  Feel free to let me know what you think of this photo, unless it is just going to be a commentary about my poor skills as a photographer.  🙂

I have a picture like this too. We had dinner at the Space Needle in Seattle. We were there at the perfect time too, it was sunny at first, then we got to watch the sunset from the rotating restaurant, topped off with a view of the city lights. I took a couple pictures that don’t fully capture how beautiful it was, but they remind me of our time there.

Niki, you need to post those space needle pictures! I have never been to Seattle, but would love to hit the Northwest sometime. It is great you were at the restaurant during a sunny time too (since I hear Seattle is so rainy all the time).

Would love to see some pictures!

Very cool picture, even though it is a commentary on your skills as a photographer 🙂
72 degrees in the evening… sounds like the perfect relaxing environment to forget about all the worries in the world.

Looks like a great time was had by all! That’s what count. Your picture shows everyone having fun, the spirit is there. 🙂 You probably need a better camera though, a good camera will take you half way.

It’s funny, the camera I have now is about 1 billion better than what I had when I was younger. However, the cameras that have come out since I bought this one 7 years ago are probably much better than my current one.

It was such a fun time. I want to go back. I want warm weather. I want sunshine. Why do I live in Michigan again?

This brings back memories! When I was a kid my family went to Disney World every year for seven years in a row. We got to be experts at navigating the park, too. Except back then it was only one park; not even Epcot Center was open yet. I actually wrote about this not *too* long ago when I was longing for a road trip. http://awindycitygal.wordpress.com/2010/08/10/hail-south-dakota/

I went to Disneyworld as an adult several years ago, around the time Animal Kingdom was opening. I lucked into an assignment at a work meeting that was taking place there, so I was able to wrap a few days vacation around it and explore the parks again. It was definitely a different experience and I still have two days left on my Park Hopper passes, which are good forever. I need to go back and use up those two days!

Linda, I never went to Disney as a child, but I do really enjoy it even as an adult. For us, the experience got better each year because we didn’t feel the need to rush around. Plus, we knew where we were going, which helped.

How great you got to go on a work trip down there. My husband did that a few years ago too and had a great time. You need to go use up those 2 days for sure!

I saw the picture before I read the post and thought it was a UFO, lol. I like the colors so I can just imagine how cool a picture like that is with memories too. 🙂

When I first saw the picture on my camera a few days later, I thought “what in the world is this?”. It does look UFO-y for sure.

As one who’s been to Disney many times, I appreciate the picture. It is beautiful, I can see why you’re proud of it.

Barb, I just found that picture so fascinating and I don’t know why. It is like I can feel the warm breeze on me when I look at it.

Have you been to Disney recently?

I am afraid I cannot make it out very well, despite visiting Disneyworld in Florida last year with the kids. It was great fun for them of course although it was sweltering that day.

I guess you may be attached to the photo becuse it has pleasant associations despite the fact that it may not be very recognaizable to a larger audience. I can see the night lights- that jumps out at me- reminds me of the fireworks at the end of teh evening!

Karen- I know the picture is somewhat hard to discern, especially if you don’t know what you are looking at. However, I thought it just looked kind of fun and thought I would share.

I love going to Florida when it is so cold in Michigan!

Well it looks like you had a great time at Disney. One of my earliest memories was sitting outside of Space Mountain with my mom, I was too small to ride it, so we just waited until my dad and brother got off. It might be a bit depressing, but I still enjoy the thought of being there. Glad you had a fun and safe vacation!

Oh I am sorry you had to wait with your mom while the others rode Space Mountain. Did you ever go back when you were older?

Although I love photos of people best, this picture immediately made me think of my son and I in the buzz lightyear ride. We both giggled like children the whole time. It was so much fun. Thank you for bringing that memory back.

I love the Buzz Lightyear ride! You have to go to the new ride at Hollywood Studios based on Toy Story, it is just as fun as Buzz.
