My Vacation Suggestion That Could Benefit All

June 27, 2011 · 23 comments

in Life

This is a public service announcement:

When taking a family vacation, please remember that parents do not have the right to take a vacation from parenting. I am sure mom would love to sit and read by the pool all day and dad might want to drink beer and watch sports at the beach cafe. However, when mom and dad are ‘vacationing’, their kids just might be out of control and driving everyone else crazy.

So you parents out there, specifically at Myrtle Beach, please note that vacation is about taking a break from work, not dumping your little angels on everyone else. The job of a lifeguard is to keep people safe, not reprimand people constantly that cannot follow rules.

Thank you,
The Management

Ugh..frustrating. I take my Mother in Law on vacation with us so that she can have some time with the kids and we can have some time alone. Since she doesn’t see them that often it’s a win/win.

My parents always did something similar. Or we were left with the grandparents so they could get away. I never looked at it is a bad thing growing up. It was a treat for us kids too. I plan on doing similar methods with my kids.

Heh heh, yeah those kids can be out of control sometime.

Oh, that sucks.

They probably don’t parent all that much to begin with, let alone need a vacation from it.

Unfortunately, those parents vacationing from parenting probably aren’t reading! Just hope their little ones stay away from the ocean when mom and dad are checked out!

I spent several summers working as a lifeguard and I would definitely thank you for this PSA (and would say the same applies when taking your kids to an amusement park). It was not uncommon for us to have a small child come up to a lifeguard balling that they couldn’t find their parent and, when the parent was tracked down, they were typically not fractically searching for their child as you might expect, but were chatting with a friend or in the jacuzzi, and fairly oblivious to their “lost” child. It was pretty sad.

Parents that do that should get a wet smack in the face with three-day old fish.

Here, here!

I’m with you both. I do not know why parents are parents if they don’t want to well… parent.

I take it you are having a lovely time at a beach? Good luck and have fun!

Yes! I would also have to add that just because there is an adult (me) in the clubhouse doesn’t mean you can send your kids in there to play. I am not supervising them!

Why do I feel like there is another story to go along with this post?

That sucks! It’s funny who the rudeness can make a vacation a little bit less enjoyable by being stupid.

Try to find a spot on the beach far from them!!!

I have to say that I always get tons of random kids at my campground sites – thanks to the lazy parents and my extroverted kid. So I get 4 kids from a campsite down the road while the two parent family gets to enjoy the quiet of nature. And I get to enjoy the noise. And feed them all. And tell them to stop bugging the dog. And get to clean up after them. Ah, the joys of camping.
