My Father’s Day Mistake

OK, so I made a Happy Father’s Day post yesterday, because I totally, somehow stupidly thought June 12th was Father’s Day.

Well, it wasn’t, at least not in the year 2011.  (Father’s Day in the U.S., it is always the third Sunday in June.  For those that need further help, reference this Father’s Day grid which lists when Father’s Day is through the year 2015.)

How did I make such a mistake?  Did I just never look at a calendar?  I mean, all five of us thought it was actually Father’s Day yesterday.  However, I am guessing that is because I told everyone in the family it was Father’s Day.  I was actually laughing today because I heard a Father’s Day commercial on TV and thought “what wasted advertising- Father’s Day was yesterday!’.

So, I am offering my apologies to anyone out there that felt ignored on Father’s Day, or anyone that ran out to the store at the last second to grab a card and a Craftsman Screwdriver Set because they read my post.

I better get going now so I can go buy Halloween candy for next week… 🙂

So my kids didn’t completely forget about father’s day yet…… at least for another week.

Biz- don’t let them forget! Soak up the presents and special treatment for at least one day a year!

I noticed it, but it was such a nice tribute post, I didn’t have the heart to point it out.

Will you celebrate twice this year? That’s not a bad thing.

MC, we were very nice to my husband all day on Fake Father’s Day. I will still probably be kind this Sunday too. He has been a great dad!

Yeah, that made me check the calendar too. I was like, don’t we usually get something from daycare?

I was so busy checking the date and stuff that I didn’t actually read the bottom of your post (saying you were actually celebrating) and figured you were just getting a jump on next week.

Well, I made you look! (At your calendar) Maybe I should start doing that.

I think I need a vacation….

Haha, you made me thought it was Father’s day also. My wife corrected me when I asked her what she got me for Father’s day. 🙂

RB40, you should have reminders all over the house so you are properly appreciated on your first Father’s Day!

You know, when I saw your post it was Sunday evening and I just froze. I thought “You have GOT to be kidding. We MISSED FATHER’s DAY!?!?”

I quickly googled Father’s Day 2011, and saw that it was in fact next weekend as I originally thought. Whew.

At that point, I felt some relief:) Then, I felt bad that you got the dates mixed up, and I didn’t want to say anything since I figured you would find out somehow.

You did have a nice post, and I’m sure you guys enjoyed the day. Maybe you can tack on an extra celebration this upcoming weekend and make it a memorable Father’s Day Week extravaganza!

That frozen feeling you describe is exactly how I felt on Monday when I realized “Yikes, Father’s Day may not be for another week”. However, I am glad that I was the one that was wrong and that all these great dads were not ignored on their special day!
