Link Round Up: Tired Edition

in Link Round Up

You know how everyone says “I need a vacation from my vacation”?   Well, I need a vacation to recover from Christmas Break.  I thought I would get so much done this week with the kids back to school.   But, life got in the way.  Issues with work, issues with sleep, issues with issues.  Needless to say, I am walking around like a zombie and the house is a mess.  So let’s see how this roundup turns out.  Hopefully my head won’t hit the keyboard midway through the post.

Because of my inability to get things done this week, I also did not get a chance to read around as much as I like to.  So, please don’t feel ignored if you are not in this roundup.    Instead, send me a cup of coffee.  Thank you.

101 Centavos writes his 5 ‘S’ resolutions for 2011, and they revolve around gardening.  It is interesting because you can feel 101’s passion for gardening when you read this post.  I can totally see him reinventing himself and starting a new career.

Aloysa’s Kitchen Sink is a bad tipper, but with good reason! This is one situation where I agree with Soviet policy- companies should not underpay service providers and patrons should just pay for the service without worrying about a tip.

Barb Friedberg is happy with her $500 car expense. My gosh, I am so envious of Barb, her car has over 100,000 miles and is just NOW getting the front brakes replaced.  My brakes never, ever, ever last that long.   I am also impressed that she is able to keep her cars running so long.   Great job Barb for not falling for temptation and buying new cars every few years.

Biz of Life posts a quote from Senator Obama about the state of America’s finances and the problem that debt is creating for our children and grandchildren.  It really was a great quote. The best part thought is the Grouch’s response.   I literally laughed out loud at Starbucks.

Budgeting in the Fun Stuff shares her 5 ‘S’ resolutions.   I need to join her in her quest to ‘Scrape together time for volunteering’. Actually, I want everyone to join BFS and get out there and volunteer!

Faithful With A Few shares the story of a man that tried to rob a restaurant with his Iphone. (Wouldn’t something shaped kinda like a gun work better?). Lesson: if you are so poor that you can’t feed your kids, you probably shouldn’t be spending your last dime on an Iphone. Hopefully I won’t be forced to rob a bank with my new Ipad…

Financial Samurai shares a guest post that had previously been published from Greg McFarlane about how to incorporate.   I am so glad he posted this again because incorporating is one of my goals for 2011, and I plan to have it done by the end of this month.   Still have a lot of research to do, and hopefully I can get it done soon!  Suggestions for company names anyone?

First Gen American arranged the ‘5 S goal writing experiment’ this month, and she writes a very in-depth post about what she hopes to accomplish this year.   Life will be much easier for First Gen after she accomplishes all these goals, and I will be very impressed and envious!

Grumpy Rumblings of the Untenured share their ‘RBOC’, which I always enjoy.   I love to read about little pieces of life, as I can usually identify with some of them.   Makes me want to see ‘Groundhogs Day’ again.

Invest It Wisely shares his blogging goals for 2011.  Kevin has such a great site that I am sure he will attain all of his goals.   If I wrote such a post, my goals would be very similar to his, except I would fail miserably at scheduling time to write.   If I sit down without a topic firmly in mind, I could just sit and stare at the screen for an hour.   If only I could type in the shower or on the treadmill…

KrantCents informs us that the American Dream is alive, you just have to realize it.v  It is a great reminder that you don’t have to be a high profile CEO to have attained the American dream.  It can be any type of work, even jobs that don’t require a four-year degree.

Len Penzo struck it rich- by properly using his Flexible Spending Account.  I, on the other hand, was an FSA loser this year as I WAAY underestimated our expenses.

Little House in the Valley has some envious utility bills. Keep on renting girl, and save that money!v  My house is like a giant vacuum that sucks up money.  If you have ample space and such renting, then I say, go for it! vHouses are definitely not a guaranteed, money-making investment, that is for sure.

Money Reasons shares the makeup of his emergency fund, and there is some great information in the comments section also.  MR and I are very similar in how we manage our emergency fund, except I have a HELOC as a last resort instead of a Roth IRA.   What do you think?

Personal Finance By the Book asks if rich people can get in to heaven.   Go read this post and I guarantee you will consider yourself rich by certain standards.   The question is, are you doing good with your money?

Retire By 40 has turned moviemaker and shared a fantastic little clip that stars two ‘people’ having a discussion in the break room at work, based on an actual conversation.  You can see why Americans are getting so heavy by watching this new blockbuster film.

Allow me to interrupt this link round up with the complaint that someone just walked in to Starbucks with enough perfume on to kill a canary.

Single Mom, Rich Mom shares her 5 ‘S’ resolutions.  I love her blog because it is just filled with honesty and humor.   This post was also fun because it brought back memories of someone I worked with that I just could not avoid.   He would even walk me out to my car to continue our conversations.  And he talked so slooooow.

Squirreler’s discusses all the benefits of getting a good night’s sleep, which ties in so nicely with me being sleep deprived.  (I can totally see how sleep is tied to success in life, because I feel like I am not going to be able to accomplish anything today besides writing this post.)  How much sleep do you need?   I know Oprah needs like 4 hours of sleep or something ridiculous like that.   I would be dead in a week.  Give me 7 solid hours, and I will be just fine.

Watson Inc wants us to chase our dreams.   This is a very motivating post, and I love the following line: “Normal is broke, busted, and disgusted.”  So very true.   Who wants to just be ‘normal’?

Wealth Informatics has a very comprehensive post that everyone needs to step through discussing many areas of personal finance, and making sure you are ‘up to date’.  This post reminded me there are a few things I have let go by the wayside and I need to address.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and I hope you enjoyed reading the articles listed above.   Time for a nap…

Hi Kris, I love it when I stop by to read a blog and find myself included!!! Hooray. All I can say is this…. been there. I recommend lowering your standards and learning to live with unfinished work/projects. When I learn how to do it, I’ll let you know!

Thanks for mentioning my link. Though I just got my electric bill and it’s no lower than my old rental house. 🙁 I guess that gives me something to work on!

Thanks for the mention!

I went to 2 birthday parties last night and one of my friend’s mom had perfume on that make me want to pass out when I was talking with her one-on-one…

Now the kids and I are of to go sledding and then to Dunkin Donut (or lunch, or both lunch and Dunkin Donut…)

We think we’ll have a lot of time and rest but it never quite ends up that way, right? 😉 Rest well, and thanks for the mention!

Hi Kris, with regards to that canary-killing perfumed lady, if this is any consolation…. I was listening to a Food Chain podcast earlier today, and the guest was a skin care pharmacist/chemist/researcher. According to him, perfume is about one of the worst things you can put on your skin. The chemicals have have excellent transdermal properties, and (again, according to this guy) long-term use will seriously jack up the endocrine system. 🙂
Oh, and thanks a heap for the link.
