I have spring fever!!!

What a beautiful day it is in Michigan!  We still have a little snow on the ground, but I see grass, and lots of it!

All I can think about is getting my garden started.  However, I have to resist the temptation to start too soon because then I end up with spindly, unattractive tomato plants.

I am thinking about expanding my garden this year and branching out a little bit.  My usuals are tomatoes, cucumbers and green beans in the vegetable garden and a separate location for strawberries.  The strawberries are just a year old, so I am anxious to see if I will get much production this year.  When I planted them, I had visions of boiling pots of strawberries and canning some preserves.  Instead, I think I got about 3 berries.

If you are looking for a place to get nice starter plants for berries and such, go to www.gurneys.com.  I have had fantastic luck with them, and the prices are very reasonable.  Plus, they have constant sales, and they ship the plants when it is the best time of year to plant them.   So if you are looking for ordinary plants, or unique and hard to find plants, Gurneys is a great resource.

Any recommendations on a great vegetable to plant would be appreciated.  (But I hate onions.)  Has anyone had luck with lettuce?  If so, which type would be best to plant?

Thanks for stopping by, and Happy Spring!
