Has Ophiuchus Turned Me into A Leo????

There are no tips in this post, nor are there really many thoughts.  It really just miscellaneous information that could affect your future if you turn to your horoscope daily to plan your life.

According to astronomer Paul Kunkle in Minnesota, there is a 13th constellation in the sun’s path, and the western world has been ignoring it. Who cares, right?  Wrong!  The constellations in the sun’s path are what define our Zodiac!  Adding that extra constellation means adding another zodiac sign.

Ophiuchus is the new zodiac sign about town, and he has asserted himself between Scorpio and Sagittarius.  He is a real charmer too! Ophiuchus means “Serpent Bearer”, and he is usually depicted as a bearded guy wrangling up a couple of serpents.

Of course, many astronomers debunk Kunkle’s claim that a new zodiac sign needs to be added.  They agree that there is a 13th constellation, but many feel that the amount of time that Ophiuchus is in the sun’s path is too short to earn itself a zodiac sign.  There is also some argument about how much the wobble and tilt of the earth affect the signs of the zodiac, but I digress.  Regardless, those that follow the Western Fixed Zodiac (which is what we are all accustomed to) have no time or patience for Ophiuchus.

I know what you are really waiting for is to find out what your new zodiac sign will be if this new zodiac takes over the world.  (Side note: the name of this ‘moving’  zodiac is the ‘Sidereal Zodiac’, or ’13 Sign Zodiac’.)   According to the Miami Herald, the new zodiac signs and dates are as follows:

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16

Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11

Pisces: March 11-April 18

Aries: April 18-May 13

Taurus: May 13-June 21

Gemini: June 21-July 20

Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10

Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16

Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30

Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23

Scorpio: Nov. 23-Nov. 29

Ophiuchus: Nov. 29- Dec. 17

Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20

So now it looks like I am morphing  from an honest and pure Virgo into a proud Leo?   I may be too old for such a transformation.  I liked being a Virgo, and I am not sure I can give it up.

Did your sign change based on the proposed new dates of the zodiac?  Are there any Ophiuchus’s out there?  (Or is it Ophiuchi?)  Do you think this idea will fade like the hardwood floor by my dining room window, or will people really take notice and horoscopes for Ophiuchus will start showing up in the paper?

This is devastating. I could lose faith completely in Astrology. I might have to rely on Tarot cards and fortune tellers to plot my next course of action. Just glad I’m not an Ophiuchi (sounds like a character from Star Wars). 🙂

I’m with Opie. He’ll probably be a better market prognosticator than Jim Cramer.

*gasp* Well, I never did feel artistic and creative enough to really be a Pisces…

Aw, man, that means I’m a Taurus now? I liked being a Gemini. I’m rebelling and staying with my birthright. First Pluto, now Oph-whatever-it’s-called. I feel so astrologically insecure. 🙂

How can I be a virgo now? I’m a total libra. I can’t remember the last time I read my horoscope. I guess it’s a good thing too.

I went from being a Capricorn to a Sagittarius. I reject that reality and substitute my own – proud Capricorns unite! ;P

Even in this system, I am a cusp, went from Cap-Aq cusp to Sag-Cap cusp. I don’t like being a cusp, but if I have to I like being a Cap-Aq cusp, am not giving it up. At least I am not in Ophi-thing. It sounds like Dobby/Winki, though I like them very much.

Yes, my wife and I went from a Scorpio to a Libra. I don’t know if it changes anything. I understand the two are pretty similar. Anyway doesn’t the disclaimer say it is for entertainment purposes only?

Hmmm…so under this alternative approach, I’m no longer a Capricorn and now a Sagittarius? I like being a Capricorn! Even though I think astrology is all hocus pocus, I’m not changing:) Right there with you, BFS…

I’m in the same boat as you then; moving from Virgo to Leo. Glad I didn’t get a tattoo! Although my friend shared this link with me, apparently Ophiuchus will have to wait. http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/01/13/no-your-zodiac-sign-hasnt-changed/?iref=NS1

I suddenly became Aries when I always was Taurus. This doesn’t work for me but I do (at least I always thought I did) represent a real Taurus. Very unsettling … I don’t want to be someone else.
