Happy Father’s Day + Links!

in Link Round Up

OH MY GOSH!  FATHER’S DAY IS NOT ACTUALLY UNTIL JUNE 19TH!!  I DID NOT REALIZE THIS UNTIL CRYSTAL FROM BUDGETING IN THE FUN STUFF COMMENTED THAT SHE THOUGHT FATHER’S DAY WAS THE 19TH.  NO WONDER IT SEEMED TO COME UP SO SOON.  HOW RIDICULOUS AM I???? MY APOLOGIES TO ALL THOSE OUT THERE THAT I CONFUSED!!!

My how quickly Father’s Day has crept up this year!  I really noticed this year that Mother’s Day seems to get so much more attention than Father’s Day.  Probably because holidays seem retailer-driven and jewelers in particular advertise like crazy so dads and kids buy moms lots of jewelry for Mothers Day.  (Similar to the marketing Sears does to get people to buy tools and grills for dads.)

To honor the dads out there, I am creating a link round up consisting of the writers out there that I know are dads.  My apologies if I miss you.  Send me an email if I left you off the list!

101 Centavos made it back from the U.K. just in time to celebrate Father’s Day.  Take a look at this post to see some great pictures and read about his journey.

Biz of Life shares some wisdom from investor Jim Rogers.  Although Rogers doesn’t have the notoriety of Warren Buffett, his opinions are thought-provoking.

Free Money Finance teaches us how to get great references when changing jobs.  Remember, never burn your bridges!

KrantCents asks if having a wedding reception at McDonalds would ever appeal to you.  I don’t know if I would ever hold my reception at McDonalds, but I do wish we had spent less on our wedding.  However, I do love Big Macs… (lite sauce, no onions).

Len Penzo is rethinking his position on strategic defaults.  What do you think?  Smart business decision or negating a contract?

Money Reasons has lost 8 pounds in 9 days!  Great job MR.  I know that type of weight loss is not sustainable, but what a fantastic start.

MoneyCone shares how low beta stocks may not be exciting, but they sure can be profitable!  (This post is from Mid May, but it is a good one!)

My Journey to Millions writes on how to use your time wisely and to quit complaining when you think you don’t have enough time in your life. Wishing a Happy First Fathers Day to Evan!

Personal Finance By the Book wrote about how instead of sharing Christmas presents this past year, they decided to share vacation time together instead with the whole family 6 months later in North Carolina.  It sounds like a wonderful trip, and also a wonderful way to celebrate the meaning of Christmas in terms of sharing time with loved ones instead of spending time stressing out over presents.

Retire By 40 uses financial savvy at the Farmers Market and gets a great deal.  Wishing RB40 a great First Fathers Day too!

Squirreler’s breaks down the true cost of owning a home that goes far beyond a mortgage payment.  If you had to do it over again, would you rent or buy??

Well, it is time to head out to celebrate a Father’s Day lunch with my family.  I do want to say Happy Father’s Day to my husband, who went above and beyond the call of duty as both a father and a husband this past year.  I truly appreciate him more than words can say.

I hope all you dads out there have a fantastic day.

According to whomever tracks these type of things, Mother’s Day is the biggest flower buying/giving day of the year. While Father’s Day is the biggest day for collect calls. Nice, right? 😉

Thanks for thinking of me, and for the mention. I love being a father, so being part of a Father’s Day roundup is quite special!
