Happy Fathers Day And… I Am Now a Member of the Yakezie!

Wanted to mention a couple of things today.

First, to all you dads out there, Happy Fathers Day!  Take advantage and enjoy your day, especially since it only comes once a year.  Get those kids out there to weed the garden, clean out the garage, or whatever you choose.  If you insist on grilling dinner, have the kids participate so they can learn the intricacies of a fine bbq meal.  (Hopefully, they will then be able to cook for you next year!)

Second, I am informing the world I am joining the Yakezie challenge.

No, the Yakezie Challenge is not some new weight-loss program.  The Yakezie is actually a group of bloggers that promote each others sites with the goal of improving each blogger’s Alexa rank.  For those not familiar with an Alexa Rank, it is a ranking system used to measure a blogs ‘popularity’, based on the number of visits to a site.   I have personally not cared much about my own personal popularity, but I want my blog to be considered popular!  However, for a visit to actually be ‘counted’ by Alexa, the reader must have the Alexa toolbar installed.  If you want to download the Alexa toolbar, click here.

Therefore, weekly you will see a post on Saturday (most likely) that highlights some posts from other members of the Yakezie Challenge that I have found particularly interesting, helpful, or amusing.

One further note to people who are in the Yakezie challenge and are looking at my site.  You will not find the Yakezie badge anywhere.  I had major technical problems with the badge, so I received special permission to join without it.  🙂 (MAJOR NEW UPDATE:  Thanks to Kevin at Invest It Wisely, I now have a working badge.  Thank you so much Kevin!!)  However, when I first learned of the Yakezie Challenge on May 7th and tried to install the badge, my Alexa Rank was 632,075.  By following some of the rules of the Yakezie, my rank is now at 203,076.

Special thanks to Sam at Financial Samurai for setting up the Yakezie Challenge and Greg at Eliminate the Muda for helping me with some issues.

Have a wonderful Fathers Day everyone!

I downloaded the Alexa toolbar! Congrats on improving you standing by 429,000 – not many people can say they improved that much in anything!

Thank you Diane! My progress has definitely slowed, that is for sure.

I truly appreciate your support. You are a great reader!

Also, thanks for the ego boost in pointing out how much I have climbed.

Welcome to the Yakezie! P.S., I’m not sure which technical problems you experienced, but I see that you have some images in the sidebar. Another way you can install the badge is just by uploading the image to your blog, and then just linking to it from your sidebar.

Here’s how I did it: I added a new text widget, and just added this code:

You could also just insert that directly in the sidebar. You should change the src=”…” to wherever you uploaded your Yakezie image. Hope this helps!

Actually since you have the image in the post, you could just reuse the URL to that image…

Damn, the code doesn’t show up. I’ve sent you an email with the Yakezie code.
