It’s Friday, and it is summer vacation, so I thought I would share something amusing. (Or at least I think is amusing.)
The other day, my youngest son told me about a picture he came across in one of the many photo bins in my room, and he was laughing. He then shared that he discovered something in the photo that he never saw before. Without telling you what it is, see if you can figure it out. (My kids are the three in the very front.) By the way, it was incredibly windy up there- my kid’s hair doesn’t usually look that way.
In case you couldn’t see it, take a look at my oldest child, who is standing in the middle wearing the Michigan State T-shirt. The ‘gentleman’ wearing the suit decided to put bunny ears on my son! Of course, I have no idea who this man is, as I believe he was part of a tour group that was visiting from China.
I find this hilarious!
I have taken dares and done many whimsical things in my life, but putting bunny ears over a child’s head during a ‘photo shoot’ has never crossed my mind before. I would worry that I was ruining a picture that someone was going to use for a Christmas card or something! However, I can’t guarantee I won’t do it in the future now. 🙂
Have you ever found something amusing in a picture years after it was taken?

Funny how people see things. I noticed it right away, but it makes sense that you would focus on your children.
I was thinking the same as you, that I would never do it because I would be afraid I was ruining someones photo op. But it does add that extra layer of whimsy.
I have never found anything, but maybe I’ll look now.
It is actually harder to see in the real picture because it is much smaller. I couldn’t find the right size to upload because it was either nearly invisible or pretty obvious.
Good point though about how I would naturally gravitate toward just looking at my kids. That is probably part of it too.
My husband always takes the opportunity to stand in the background of other people’s vacation photos and make funny faces in them. He either sticks out his tongue or does something similar. He considers it a nice surprise for otherwise boring vacation pictures.
I love this photo. It’s great. You can really sense how windy it is there.
Oh my gosh, it was so windy. I remember my husband has the stub for the parking lot in his shirt pocket, and it just flew right out and landed somewhere in Toronto.
I run away from all picture taking opportunities for my own family, and I also try to stay out of those for other people. I think I have an unnatural fear of the strangers looking at their photos and saying “I can’t believe she would wear that shirt” or something like that!
My friends and I used to do this in high school and I sometimes still succumb to the temptation. It’s nearly irresistible when you live in a tourist town once you’ve started. I have to wonder how many families are like you – only noticing our antics years down the line (nothing crude, just funny faces and antics).
I have been tempted to do a lot of things, but this one never crossed my mind before. I wonder if next time at Disney I won’t be able to resist?
Hilarious picture! The expression on the man’s face made it seem like he was part of your group! He’s smiling right at you. He probably saw how much fun you all were having and wanted to get in on it!
I would never have the nerve to do that to someone else’s pictures!
I know, he totally looks like he fits right in with us. Like he is the crazy uncle that we took on vacation!
That is just too funny! I wouldn’t do it in case the photo taker doesn’t have my sense of humor (getting yelled at in public would crush me), but it is great that it happened since you obviously think it’s funny too even years later!
If I am “stuck” in other people’s photos, like when I’m at the same table or group like that, I give my biggest smile just like I do with my family pictures. You can be fat or thin or gorgeous or not, but what people usually notice is the face and smile (well, and my reddish-blond hair…). 🙂
Isn’t there a saying like “A smile is the best accessory” or something like that? If not, there should be, lol.
BFS- You should coin the phrase the a smile is the best accessory and get rich.
I hate being stuck in other people’s photos and I run away as fast as I can. I saw myself to the side in a picture today (I didn’t know I was in it) and I wanted to scream. Maybe I need counseling for my issue?
My dad and brother do the same thing. They love “crashing” other people’s photos. Usually a good way to make friends and usually all is forgiven when they offer to take the group shot so the person taking the photo can actually be IN the shot. Thanks for sharing!
So you haven’t crashed a photo yet, or are you just not confessing? 🙂
I quite often often to take a picture for a family when they are posing. However, I hate when they don’t speak english and I sound like an idiot.
That’s actually a pretty cool picture Kris! Though I wouldn’t do that if I didn’t know the people, I think guy’s bunny salute is cool in a quirky way!
MC- I truly love the bunny salute. Like I said in an earlier comment, it isn’t nearly as obvious in the normal sized picture, but you can’t miss it once you know it is there.
Now will you be tempted?
Firstly, your kids are adorable!! I would never do that, I think it is way out of line to do to a stranger.
I was looking at my 3rd grade class picture from elementary school on day, and I saw everybody else smiling, but my cousin had a huge real smile. Knowing that my cousin hated school I started staring at him trying to figure out why. That when I realized that while his hand was straight down his leg, he was flipping off the camera. Nobody caught it all these years…
MR, that is hilarious. Your aunt/uncle never realized this, or do you think they kept it a secret?
LOL.. I didn’t even see that till you pointed it out. How funny. It amazing the little things we don’t always catch when looking at photos.
I am really glad my son noticed that in the picture, it made it even better. I just hope he doesn’t show up in other vacation photos, then I might get a little nervous… 🙂
Hey Kris, that’s hilarious that you didn’t notice until recently. There’s a whole website dedicated to pictures called Photobomb. Some of them are hilarious!
I went and looked at photobomb after I read your comment- how funny! Some of those pictures look totally photoshopped, but I am sure are not. I think my favorite was naked-flexible guy.
Thanks for sharing!
You have made my day with this post. I love the expression on everyone’s faces in that picture. Wouldn’t it be funny if the mystery man is a reader of your blog!
Thanks Denise! That wind was so strong! I would love if this guy came across this picture on the internet, although maybe I would end up sued or something.
