This blog was nominated by Retire by 40 to participate in the “7 links project”. The purpose of the project is for each blog writer to highlight 7 of their previous posts, based on 7 questions. The following are my responses to the 7 questions. I hope you take the time to maybe click on some of the articles you have not read yet, as some are these posts are from way back in the day when I was the only reader of this blog.
Your most beautiful post
That is a tough one, because I don’t think of myself as a beautiful writer. However, I did write about some simple memories, both happy and sad, that I know I will never forget. You just never know what you will experience in life that will end up staying with you forever. Many of these experiences will shape your life, and others maybe just bring a smile to your face. The emotions I felt and the events I recalled when writing that post were very interesting. I laughed a little, and I think I cried a little. Regardless, I enjoyed writing that post tremendously.
Your most popular post
Ridiculously enough, my most popular post was about how Google avoids taxes by using such methods as the ‘Double Irish’ and ‘Dutch Sandwich (Tax)’. It became popular because Scott Adams wrote a Dilbert cartoon that mentioned Dutch Sandwich Taxes, and so everyone googled the term ‘Dutch Sandwich Tax’, which brought up my blog.
Your most controversial post
I don’t really go for controversy at all. However, I recently wrote about how I am sick of how everyone wants to tax the rich to fix the ills of the country, and it got a couple readers riled up. I actually thought more people would be angry at that post. Maybe people just didn’t read it, or got bored halfway through…
Your most helpful post
I probably find this post most helpful because of the illness my son went through, but the info I provided in the post about the illness C. Diff (Clostridium Difficile) could make a big difference to many. Just about everyone I know takes antibiotics at one time or another, and usually don’t think twice about what antibiotics really do to your body, specifically your gut flora. If I could prevent one person from getting C Diff, then I would feel like a huge success.
A post whose success surprised you
Well, the success of the Google Taxes post mentioned above shocked me. However, since that post has already been mentioned, I will instead say that the success of the post written about that little brat in the Toyota Highlander commercial surprised me second most. I cringe whenever I see those commercials. (For those unfamiliar with the ads, there is a rich looking kid in the back of his Toyota Highlander with his headphones on watching television. He glaces over at the car next to him, where his classmate is stuck in the back seat with only his parents for amusement. The rich brat just shakes his head in pity at the other kid and says something about how great the Toyota Highlander is.) Obviously there are many readers out there that agreed with me because when I look at my search statistics, quite often I see the search term “Toyota Highlander Brat”. (My site ranks second and third on Google for the term “Toyota Highlander Brat”. I feel so accomplished.)
A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved.
Whereas the post I wrote about questions I have about the doctor’s office wasn’t particular informative, I found it kind of fun. I wrote it during my second month of blogging, and it didn’t really get much attention. However, I do like that post.
The post that you are most proud of
A reader had emailed me a question regarding tracking expenses, and also spending habits in general. I responded with a lengthy post which included expense tracking, and also some money saving tips that can be employed for life. I covered so many basics of personal finance in this post, and also included some healthy living ideas that also benefit your wallet.
I now have to nominate 5 other bloggers. I have no idea who all has participated, so if you were nominated and already wrote a ‘7 links’ post, then please ignore my request:
A special thank you goes out to Retire By 40 for nominating me to participate in the 7 Links Project. It was fun to go through my old posts and re-read some of them!
