10 Miscellaneous Thoughts, Volume I

February 11, 2011 · 17 comments

in Life

Ok it is February, and we are really just over half done with winter.  Traditionally, the worst half of winter should be behind us now, but who knows?   All this global “warming” has my brain frozen and I don’t know if I can come up with one long, coherent thought for a post.  Therefore I will be treating you all to little thoughts that cross my brain as I type.

1.  I would just love to see some grass.  I have loved snow my whole life, until this year.  Now I would pay good money to run barefoot through my backyard without getting frostbite.

2.  I was listening to the news and they mentioned Pitchers and Catchers reporting to spring training in the coming days.  This made me really want to go see a live Tiger’s game now.  Seeing the sun set and watching the shadows start to cover the baseball field is a wonderful thing.

3.  Three different drivers were not courteous to me on the road today, and they were all driving luxury cars.  Maybe I need to conduct a long-term study on this.

4.  The city library where I live is closing in April because the city is broke.  Apparently we don’t need police officers either because a bunch of them are getting let go too (not all, just some).  Keep in mind we live in a city that is well above the state average for income and quite a few companies are headquartered here.  Too bad the city didn’t manage the money well ten years ago when times were good, then maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess.  Who needs books, computers, or protection?

5.  I realized today that I really operate best under a deadline.  I don’t want a super tight deadline, but my brain likes due dates.  I like schedules and structure I guess.

6.  Just one more lease payment and we can turn our car in and be done with it.    I will have a small celebration when we get rid of this lease vehicle.  It has been a great car, but I hate that lease payment and feeling constrained by lease miles.

7.  We need to re-pave our garage and driveway desperately.  If the weather ever improves, would anyone like to come over and clear ten years worth of stuff out of our garage?  You can build shelving units for us too, that would be great.   Oh I need some drywall repair done too.

8.  I watched one of those episodes of “Holmes On Holmes” the other day, and now I am nervous that our house is a disaster underneath the brick and stucco, like every other house is that is featured on a home remodeling show.  I probably have termites, flood damage, and a cracked foundation.

9.  How come it feels warmer out when it is eight degrees and sunny outside than it does when it is 28 and overcast?  Or is that just my perception?

10.  I love to see a dog with it’s head hanging out the window of a car.  Actually seeing a dog must about anywhere makes me smile.

Well, that is it.  Those are my ten tiny thoughts for the day.  Do you have any thoughts you would like to share?

Windchill?

I’ve never really understood leasing a car. Does this mean you’re in the market for a new car?

I hear folks outside putting in 2K worth of trees on our side-yard. 🙂

I’m sending warm thoughts your way. Maybe the sun will eventually appear this month in your neighborhood. I can tell by reading your random thoughts that you have cabin fever. 😉

That is a lot of thoughts! But the weather thing really bugs you it seems! Here is a trick: prepare a summer dinner tonight, with full of colors. Fresh fruits and vegetables, a salad and fish or grilled meat. Oranges are pretty good and making me feeling summer. That is why I buy the big Florida ones almost every winter. And vitamin C is nice when the sun is not there so much.

I too noticed luxury cars tend to be less respectful. I said that a couple of times to my friends and relatives and they thought I was crazy. Well, let me tell you I don’t think I am! We can’t say it is a generalized fact, but there is a tendency, I am sure!

Focus on #6 and #10 and wait for #1! Stay positive! You are having a case of the winter blues!

TGIF! This week has been dragging on and on.
One of my friend absolutely hate BMW drivers. She said they are the biggest jerks on the planet and they are always the one running red lights.

I heard a lot of stories about Cadillac drivers over the years. All bad!!!!! Does leasing make better sense in a difficult (a lot of rain/snow and cold) climate where cars do not last very long?

My last car started rusting significantly after only 4 years, but that was an exception. Most cars should be covered against significant rust for 7 years and you can always get an older car in decent shape; besides, a car can last a long time even with some rust.

I read a study once in college that claimed that SUV drivers were the “biggest jerks” on the road. I think it has something to do with a sense of entitlement at their height. In my opinion the worst drivers are city bus drivers, but I guess I can’t fully blame them. Mrs. BP drives an SUV and they are great if you need the space (and I don’t think it alters her personality when she gets in one).

I was just thinking today that I haven’t seen the grass since fall, it seems. I feel like the northeast, where we live has become a tundra. Can’t wait for the spring and the baseball it brings with it.

The large SUVs that drive way too fast in slippery conditions and go up my ass annoy me…

It’s definitely been a white (cold) winter!

My thoughts have been most that I miss my deck. I long to be outsite at dusk with a cup or coffee or wine… Soon, soon…

Since I get the same weather as you but 2 days later, I can relate. My thought is that February is the best month to go somewhere warm for a week. By February, you’re just darn sick of seeing the dirty snowbanks and shivering til your muscles hurt.

I’m going to go lay my last 4 tiles in my mom’s bathroom now. Good night.

I’m about done with snow too. Blech!
I noticed the other day, as I was helping a young man dig/push his car out of a snow drift, that several of the cars passing by, going around us (and not stopping) were expensive luxury cars. Shake head, roll eyes.

I really am not a fan of discourteous drivers. It’s quite sad that people don’t share the road respectfully.

I found your “warm weather” observation funny and sometimes true for me as well! (mind over matter I guess)

Deadlines definitely are critical for peak performance… like you said –> not overly stringent though.

Dogs and babies always make me smile and just seeing a picture of a cat on a blog makes my heart melt. Hope winter is over soon for all of us. this is our first winter back in Minnesota in 5 years. 3 years in san diego and almost 2 in texas. Forgot what cold is.
